Camera
Nikon D90 rolling old school
Lens
Sigma 17-70mm 1:2.8-4 macro

This is a proper selfie shot.

I say old school D90, but the reality is that I am in need of an upgrade. Broke hobby photographer will always have that list of gear to get if the hobby becomes more serious. In the meantime the trusty D90 will get banged around in the journey ahead.

I find that the 17-70mm lens is a good all-around lens for the outdoors. Wide enough for shots of the view, and macro for closeups. Some zoom capability which has saved me from missing a shot.

Next lens will have wider angle to capture the stars.

Twisted tree marker
Location
Mt Baldy
Info
Ski Hut/Baldy Bowl Trail
Altitude
Approximately 9000 ft.

I use this twisted fallen tree as a marker when hiking up to Baldy Bowl.

The trail eases up a bit about 50 meters past this tree, onto a flatter hike. The crash site for two WWII Grumman HellCats will be just a short hike from this fallen tree.

Lucky Shot
Location
Cottonwood Lakes Trail
Info
Inyo National Forest
Altitude
11,500 ft.

Upon reaching the campsite at 11,500 ft. elevation. I felt the onset of a fever. The trail was dusty, and I may have inhaled something that my system is fighting. As it gets dark, the temp drops down to the low 30's. I am in my tent sweating despite the cold, and moisture is collecting at the top of the tent forming frost. By morning an ice layer has formed. Still fighting the fever, I sleep in well into the daylight. The sun melts the ice layer and drips down making it impossible to sleep. Dodging droplets, I decide to step out for brunch feeling a little better.

Well enough to hike and explore the surrounding lakes.

Midnight Porter
A Unique London Brew
Aroma
Toasted bread and spices
Flavour
Plum with roasted coffee and hints of chocolate.
Bitterness
31/100 IBU's

Midnight Porter is a full bodied creamy dark beer. The recipe for this Midnight Porter dates back to 1836 and was discovered by a friend of mine while digging through some old archives in Edinburgh. Discovering this recipe was one thing however then some dedicated deciphering was needed to translate this old English recipe into the 21st Century. After recalculating Bushels, Pecks and Kennings into Litres, Kilograms and Grams we have managed to bring this old Porter back to life.

Emerging from the darkness our midnight Porter is always there just when you need an extra guide to your seat.
